Program Benefits

Application Details

Eligibility

  • Attending Northeastern University, Roxbury Community College, or another two-year community college
  • Rising Freshman or Sophomore in college
  • Must be a student in one or more of the following NSF identified minority populations in the STEM workforce: identifying as a women, one of the three identified racial and ethnic groups (Black, Hispanic, American Indian or Alaska Native), or being a person with disabilities. 
  • Can commit to a 10-week in-person summer research experience on Northeastern’s Boston campus

Please note that no previous research experience is required!

  • Applicants’ transcript
  • List and description of applicants’ extracurricular activities
  • Letter of recommendation from a teacher/professor from applicants’ senior year of high school, or their freshmen year of undergraduate study that can attest to their ability to be successful in an intensive research experience
  • A brief essay that contains applicants’ reasons for wanting to take part in a research experience committed to community engaged and health equity research
    •  Two goals will be identified by applicants’ that they want to accomplish by being part of the SHINE Program
