Principle Investigator, Dr. Idia B. Thurston
Idia Binitie Thurston, PhD (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist, professor of health sciences and applied psychology, Affiliate Professor of Africana Studies, and Associate Director of the Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research at Northeastern University. Her research explores how race, ethnicity, social class, gender, size, and sexuality intersect and influence health outcomes, inequities, and well-being in youth and families. Dr. Thurston will be participating as a Faculty Mentor to SHINE interns in addition to her role as PI.

SHINE Program Manager, Suzanne Garverich
Suzanne Garverich, MPH is the Program Manager at the Institute for Health Equity and Social Justice Research and directs and leads the undergraduate research experience, the Health Equity Internship. She als has extensive experience in mental health research utilizing CBPR. She has worked on SAMHSA, NIH, and NIMH-funded studies for the past 15 years. Her areas of interest are in research using a mixed methods approach as well as research dedicated to improving mental health services.
